Deployment alternatives
Railway alternatives for application hosting
Start with the reason Railway stopped fitting. A credible replacement must host the required application services, preserve state deliberately, and satisfy the destination-region requirement before price can decide anything.
Scope: This page compares application deployment platforms. Raw VPS plans, database-only products, and generic cloud catalogs remain separate decisions.
Route ownership
Choose here, price on the provider page
This page compares deployment fit and switching consequences. Pricing and plan rows stay on the provider page: Railway pricing and plans. Candidate names below also lead to their pricing owners, so a capability comparison cannot drift into a second price list.
Eligibility rule
What counted as an alternative
A genuine Railway alternative passes the application PaaS predicate and can replace the required application services. A narrower runtime qualifies only for that workload. A control plane on customer-owned infrastructure qualifies only when changing the responsibility boundary is the reason to switch. Stateful dependencies and requested-region availability remain mandatory workload gates.
Complete candidate set
13 deployment alternatives
Start with the switch condition, then verify the exact runtime and region. Similar products can be nearly identical for a simple service and materially different for state, workers, functions, networking, or build behavior.
Broad region overlap recorded
Clever Cloud
- Deployment model
- Hosted runtime with a published instance menu.
- Switch when
- Switch when a runtime-specific instance menu is easier to budget than Railway's measured CPU, memory, storage, and transfer model.
- What changes
- Verify the exact runtime and instance product. Product-level eligibility does not prove framework or add-on parity.
Region overlap not confirmed
Cloud 66
- Deployment model
- Deployment control plane on customer-owned servers or cloud.
- Switch when
- Switch only when keeping compute in customer-owned infrastructure is a hard requirement and a separately billed deployment control plane is acceptable.
- What changes
- Cloud infrastructure remains a separate bill and operating boundary. Registry region evidence is unknown because placement follows the customer's infrastructure.
Broad region overlap recorded
Fly.io
- Deployment model
- Machine-oriented application runtime with explicit region and local-volume configuration.
- Switch when
- Switch when explicit Machine sizing, primary-region control, or local volumes are requirements and the team can own replication decisions.
- What changes
- The team takes on fly.toml, Machine, network, and local-volume decisions.
Broad region overlap recorded
Heroku
- Deployment model
- Hosted dynos organized by Procfile process types with separate data services.
- Switch when
- Switch when an existing Procfile, dyno sizing, and Heroku add-on ecosystem reduce migration and operating work more than Railway's resource meter does.
- What changes
- Every process type and attached data service remains a separate migration and cost unit.
Broad region overlap recorded
Koyeb
- Deployment model
- Hosted application and container runtime with fixed instance and GPU menus.
- Switch when
- Switch when a published fixed instance or GPU size is easier to select and budget than Railway's measured-resource model.
- What changes
- Choose and price the exact instance, platform plan, storage, transfer, and data service.
Broad region overlap recorded
Northflank
- Deployment model
- Hosted application platform with compute, sandbox, database, and GPU products.
- Switch when
- Switch when one catalog must span application compute, developer sandboxes, managed data, or GPU plans beyond Railway's service meter.
- What changes
- The platform tier and every selected compute or data product must be priced together.
Region overlap not confirmed
Porter
- Deployment model
- Deployment control plane on customer-owned cloud.
- Switch when
- Switch only when running in the customer's own cloud account is required and a separate paid deployment control plane is the desired boundary.
- What changes
- Porter's charge and the underlying cloud bill are separate. Registry region evidence is unknown because placement follows the customer cloud.
Broad region overlap recorded
PythonAnywhere
- Deployment model
- Python-specific hosted web application runtime.
- Switch when
- Switch when the workload is Python-only and PythonAnywhere's runtime, access, and task limits remove the need for Railway's general service model.
- What changes
- This does not replace non-Python runtimes or broader platform features.
Region overlap not confirmed
Qovery
- Deployment model
- Application control plane on customer-owned cloud and clusters.
- Switch when
- Switch only when workloads must remain in customer-owned cloud accounts and Qovery's cluster and environment control plane is desired.
- What changes
- Qovery's fee does not replace the underlying cloud bill. Registry region evidence is unknown because placement follows the customer cloud.
Broad region overlap recorded
Render
- Deployment model
- Hosted web, worker, cron, workflow, static, and managed-data service graph.
- Switch when
- For a conventional stateless web service, the choice may barely matter. Switch when explicit web, worker, cron, static, and data products plus fixed instance tiers are preferable to Railway's resource meter.
- What changes
- Price every service and workspace layer. A persistent disk changes scaling and migration behavior.
Region overlap not confirmed
Replit
- Deployment model
- Collaborative source workspace with integrated publishing.
- Switch when
- Switch when development and deployment already happen in Replit and avoiding a second platform is worth the workspace coupling.
- What changes
- Export source and environment state before treating the move as reversible. Registry region evidence is unknown.
Broad region overlap recorded
Upsun
- Deployment model
- Git-driven application platform with branch environments and provisioned project resources.
- Switch when
- Switch when branch environments, user and project layers, and provisioned resource units match the delivery workflow better than Railway's service meter.
- What changes
- Total cost includes project, user, and resource-unit layers rather than only application compute.
Region overlap not confirmed
Zeabur
- Deployment model
- Hosted application deployment plus external-server management plans.
- Switch when
- Switch when Zeabur's deployment model or external-server management plan fits better than Railway's hosted resource meter.
- What changes
- External-server runtime purchase and renewal remain separate from the platform fee. Registry region evidence is unknown.
Why the list stops here
Different products are not padded into the count
The registry audit evaluated every vendor and excluded 35 under this page's rule. These are the boundaries most likely to create a false match:
- Raw VPS and Kubernetes products change the operating boundary instead of replacing Railway directly.
- Static-only hosts and managed databases do not replace an application service graph.
- A generic catalog entry without a verified deployable runtime does not qualify.
