What is Egress overage?
Egress overage is the charge or policy consequence that starts after included outbound transfer is used.
The expensive mistake
Multiplying all outbound traffic by the overage rate, or assuming every provider responds with a charge. Some bill per GB, some throttle, and some impose a soft or hard limit. The allowance and the over-limit behavior must be evaluated together.
Where it appears on your bill
For billed plans it appears as bandwidth, outbound data transfer, or excess transfer. For throttled plans there may be no extra invoice line, but service performance changes.
Worked example
A recorded $4 DigitalOcean Basic Droplet includes 500 GB and charges $0.01/GiB overage. At 700 GiB outbound, (700 - 500) x $0.01 = $2, so compute plus overage is $6 before storage, backups, or other services.
