Cloud pricing term

What is Per-seat pricing?

Per-seat pricing charges for each billable user or role that can access a platform.

Also called: per-user pricing, developer seat, user license, team member fee.

The expensive mistake

Budgeting the infrastructure but not the people who operate it, or charging viewers as developers when the provider distinguishes roles. Team growth can make seat cost larger than the server cost.

Where it appears on your bill

Look for developer seats, user licenses, members, collaborators, or advanced user-management add-ons.

Worked example

Vercel Pro is recorded at $20/month with one developer seat and additional developer seats at $20/month. A five-developer team costs $20 + 4 x $20 = $100/month before usage beyond the included credit. Counting only the plan would understate the recurring platform line by $80.
