What is BYOC?
BYOC means the management platform runs workloads in a cloud account the customer owns and pays for separately.
The expensive mistake
Comparing a BYOC management fee with a fully hosted price. The platform invoice and the AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud invoice are two parts of one deployment cost, and the platform may price itself from requested CPU and memory.
Where it appears on your bill
The platform or management fee appears from one vendor, while compute, disk, network, IP, and managed-service charges appear in the customer's cloud account.
Worked example
Porter publishes a management fee of $13 per vCPU-month plus $6 per GB RAM-month. For 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM, the platform portion is 2 x $13 + 4 x $6 = $50/month. The result remains scenario required because $50 excludes the customer's cloud compute, disk, network, and IP bill.
