What do list, calculated, usage-based and quote prices mean?
We label every price with one of four types: a list price the provider prints, a price we calculate from the provider's own rates, a price that depends on your usage, and a quote you have to ask for.
The expensive mistake
Treating a missing monthly total as zero lets the least complete offer win. A list price is not always a complete bill, a calculated price must show its formula, a usage-based price must say which usage it needs, and a quote stays unpriced until the provider gives you terms.
Where it appears on your bill
List and calculated prices can become a line on your bill straight away. A usage-based price resolves once you know your seats, runtime, storage or requests. A quote resolves through a contract or order form.
Worked example
DigitalOcean lists its Basic Droplet at $4. AWS t4g.nano is calculated as $0.0042 x 730 = $3.07. Railway object storage depends on usage until you know the stored GB-month; at 100 GB-month it is 100 x $0.015 = $1.50. Netlify Enterprise is quote only, so its public $500 starting point is a floor rather than an exact monthly total.
